Did you know that Austria has an underwater nativity scene? Located in the Attersee-Attergau region, this unique dive location can be experienced by all divers from Sunday the 27th of November until Thursday the 2nd of February.

The largest inland body of water in Austria, Lake Attersee is an Eldorado for divers from all over Europe. With an area of 48 km² and a length of 23 km, the Upper Austrian Attersee offers an extensive, unique diving area. The unusually clear water allows visibility up to 25 meters and up to 30 meters in winter. 23 dive entry points as well as diving bases are available for underwater sports enthusiasts all year round.

In 2021, Attersee got a new winter attraction – the first underwater nativity scene in Austria. It was officially launched on November the 28th 2021 thanks to Gregor Bockmüller from the diving center “Under Pressure”, also a diving priest. Since then, the new underwater winter attraction can be experienced by divers every year from the diving entry point ‘Dixi – Pfahlbauhaus’ in Weyregg am Attersee.

This interpretation does not aim to trivialize the Christmas nativity scene, but has rather been developed using symbols from Christian tradition: pearls are used as an indication of the preciousness of life, fish as an ancient symbol in Christianity and coral as an ancient symbol of protection, specifically protecting children from harm, following the tradition of coral necklaces in Italy. Everything is made in anodizing metal.
