Join us for an online screening of a documentary produced by Dr. Ingrid Waldron and the David Suzuki Foundation, titled “There’s Something in the Water.” This is a panel discussion on environmental racism moderated by the David Suzuki Foundation’s Sherry Yano. A discussion will follow the screening.

About the panelists

Dr. Ingrid Waldron, Ph.D., is a sociologist, Associate Professor at the Dalhousie University Faculty of Health, Director of the Environmental Noxiousness, Social Inequities & Community Health Initiative (ENRICH Initiative), and Co-Lead of the Flagship Project to Improve the Health of People of African Descent at the Safe Communities Institute of Dalhousie.

Dr. David Suzuki is the founder of the David Suzuki Foundation and an award-winning geneticist and broadcaster.

Dorene Bernard is a Grandmother of the Mi’kmaq Grassroots, Water Defender, Water Walker, and Shubenacadie Indian Residential School Survivor. Her 20 + years of social work focused on Native Child Protection and Community Support with the Shubenacadie Indian Residential School survivors and families, documenting the past and legacy of the Indian School.

Louise Delisle is a proud Black woman and community leader who is working tirelessly to fix the environmental injustice that has been overlooked in the Shelburne, Nova Scotia community. She is a former CNA. She is the president of the SEED (South End Environmental Injustice Society) activist organization.

Michelle Francis-Denny is a member of the Boat Harbour Remediation Community Liaison of the Pictou Landing First Nation. She is enthusiastic about returning the contaminated water and soil to a position on which the Elders depended and referred to as A’se. She is committed to ensuring that the Pictou Landing First Nation is progressing towards economic reconciliation and the reclamation of its traditional lands.
