Mobilize Divers With PADI Club Speaker Series Events
Gain insight and inspiration from PADI Club Speaker Series guests who use their experience to advocate for wildlife protection and natural resource conservation. This LIVE monthly webinar featuring scientists, conservationists, explorers and filmmakers creating ocean change is a built-in opportunity to bring divers together for a social event at your shop. Fill your Dive Against Debris®, Coral Reef Conservation, AWARE Shark Conservation and other specialty courses to help address ocean threats, gather data to protect your favorite aquatic sites, and mobilize divers for your community-based projects.
Bring your popcorn and host a screening event featuring the extraordinary film Chasing Coral alongside the PADI Club Speaker Series interview with storyteller Richard Vevers, who pioneered the camera that took Google Street View underwater to capture over a million images for the world’s largest reef survey used in the film.
If you haven’t yet seen Chasing Coral, Director Jeff Orlowski shines a light on coral reef decline from rising ocean temperatures through the lens of divers, scientists and photographers from 28 countries who logged over 650 hours documenting coral reefs in real time.
Richard Vevers, a self-professed ad-man-turned-diver, is also the Founder and CEO of The Ocean Agency. The Ocean Agency’s science-based 50 Reefs initiative resulted in an $86M donation for coral reef conservation for the 50 sites identified in the reef survey. Richard now works with the UN Environment Programme to help inform international policy to save coral reefs. He says, “It’s really the divers that get to see the underwater world, and fall in love with the underwater world, that are going to make the big difference in protecting it.”
Chasing Coral won the Sundance Film Festival Audience Award, Best Documentary at the Peabody Awards, and Outstanding Nature Documentary at the Emmys. Chasing Coral is available on Netflix. You can watch Richard Vevers’ Chasing Coral interview here.
Create a Ripple Effect of Positive Ocean Change With Your Next LIVE Club Speaker Series Event
You won’t want to miss the opportunity to meet first-time filmmaker, videographer, editor, and content creator Manlio David Martínez from Roatán, Islas de la Bahía, Honduras, the featured guest for this month’s PADI Club Speaker Series event on Thursday, August 24th. His breakout short film I Want Sun premiered in the 2023 International Ocean Film Festival. It is “an intimate portrait of Roatan’s fragile ecosystems – from the largest remaining stand of staghorn coral in the Caribbean, to the seagrass meadows and mangrove forests that connect coastal habitats and fauna across the Bay Islands of Honduras. Unsustainable development and excessive tourism are threatening the natural marine environment on which this small island community depends.”
Reserve your spot today to meet Manlio and ask him your questions during this LIVE interview in partnership with the International Ocean Film Festival.
Support Ocean Conservation and Wildlife Protection Through Club Membership
Did you know 5% of every Club membership is donated to PADI AWARE Foundation for global ocean conservation and marine animal protection? Over 80% of PADI AWARE’s work is funded by donations to support programs such as the upcoming Shark & Ray Census, a global citizen science program that aims to monitor shark and ray populations and protect them from extinction.
Explore and Protect the Ocean
Throughout the year, Club members are invited on exclusive Club trips to bucket list dive destinations where they connect with divers from around the world. A Dive Against Debris event is integrated into every trip to promote conservation awareness and ocean stewardship. No one is better skilled to tackle ocean debris than PADI divers. This past month, Club hosted Belize’s first-ever Dive Against Debris event, supporting PADI’s mission to restore balance between humanity and the ocean, and advance its goal to create 1 billion Torchbearers to explore and protect the ocean. As the world’s largest diving organization, we have a tremendous opportunity to mobilize individuals to engage in solution-based initiatives geared towards a more sustainable future.

Club members can showcase their dive skills and support ocean conservation with a mobile eCard, recycled plastic card, or both. The photographers behind these wildlife certification card designs share the stories behind their photos and their personal motivations for ocean advocacy:
Great White Wonder by Andy Casagrande features a curious great white shark as it swings by to say hello in a captivating over-under shot off Guadalupe Island, Mexico. The Emmy Award-winning cinematographer and wildlife conservationist’s innovative and unorthodox camera techniques reframe the way the world sees and perceives wildlife: “I love sharks more than anything and I will never stop fighting to protect them and change people’s perspectives about them.”
The new limited-edition Mermaiding card features PADI Professional Mermaid, Freediver Instructor and AmbassaDiverBrandee Anthony gliding through the crystal-clear waters of Alexander Springs, Florida. Her coral restoration initiatives aim to bring awareness to coral reef protection, restoration, and the marine animals who call them home. Brandee notes, “I believe the more people we can teach to dive, the more people we can teach to care about our waters.”
