One of the most commonly asked questions we hear from our PADI dive shops is ‘When should I post on social media?’. With social media algorithms limiting what posts are shown to users, it can be extremely difficult for a business to rise above the overload of content being published every day. However, by knowing the best times to post on social media you can overcome the noise and increase the chances of your posts being seen.
So when should you post on social media?
The simple answer – when your audience are most active online and therefore, more likely to engage with your content. A well-timed post on social media can be the difference between majority of your audience seeing your post or just a few. With thousands of posts being published every day and algorithms ever-changing, it’s crucial that you post optimally to maximise your opportunity to earn engagement.
Know when your followers are most active
Now that you’re aware you should be posting when your followers are most active online, the next step is actually being able to find this data. It’s important to firstly recognize that each social media platform is different so your most popular days and hours will actually vary from account to account. You should therefore, be reviewing your audience insights for each social media platform that you manage.
Here’s how you can find when your followers are most active on both Facebook and Instagram:
On Facebook, you can locate your audience insights through Facebook Creator Studio. From here, you will need to go to your ‘audience insights’ and select ‘new followers’. If you scroll down, you will be able to find the most popular days and hours your followers are online.
Similarly to Facebook, you can locate your audience insights for Instagram through Facebook Creator Studio or natively through the Instagram app. Once you’re in Facebook Creator Studio, you will need to switch to ‘Instagram Creator Studio’ and select ‘audience insights’. Under audience insights you will be able to find when your followers are most active. If you’re wanting to find this data in the Instagram app, you will need to go to ‘insights’ and select ‘audience’.
Post consistently and optimally
Posting regularly and at times when your audience are most active online, will help build your brands online presence. Once you have determined the most popular days and times your audience are actively using each social media platform, it’s time to schedule your posts. If your audience are most active on Wednesdays at 6 pm, you should ensure you have a post ready to be published at that time. Similarly, if you have an urgent post you need to publish, make sure you review your audience insights to see what the most popular time is to post that day. This will dramatically increase the likelihood of your posts being seen by your audience. Posting consistently each week and at your most popular times will also help improve your post engagement and reach rates.
You now know the best times to post on social media, but do you know what to actually post? Here are 32 examples of things your dive shop can post to help develop your social media content plan. If you have any questions, please contact PADI Marketing.
